ESL Tutor

The Women In Charge’s ESL Program is in need of dedicated individuals in the St. Louis/St. Charles area who are passionate about helping adult immigrants and refugees improve their English language skills and achieve their goals. Teaching experience is a plus, but not required.  The classes can be one-on-one or in small groups of 2 to 4 students, at the Women In Charge office in University City, at a public library/restaurant, or online. We are asking for at least one session (60-90 minutes) commitment per week, based on your availability and preference. Training and materials will be provided.

The first step in the process is to submit our volunteer application form electronically. Once we receive your application, you will be contacted to come to the Women In Charge office for a 20-minute meeting. We will talk about the structure of our ESL program, potential students, your preferences, etc. and see if this is something you would be interested in committing to. HiSET/GED Tutor

Help prepare women between the ages of 17 and 70 for the HiSet (High School Equivalency Test). Basic knowledge of Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science required. Experience in education and/or Algebra I and II a plus. Our sessions are held in person in University City between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:30 PM, Monday through Thursday. We typically ask that tutors can commit to one 1.5- to 2-hour tutoring session per week, on the same day each week. This helps us maintain consistency and ease of scheduling for our students. If interested, please contact Mary King @ 314-432-7300 or email at mary@womenincharge.org.
