Lynn Chapman Wolf, MSW; LCSW
Grants Manager/Social Worker
Lynn Chapman-Wolf, MSW, LCSW, has served as the Women in Charge Social Worker since 2005. She holds an MSW (University of Missouri-Columbia), a BSW in social work (Central Missouri State University), and a BA in general studies with emphasis in English, social work, and women’s studies (University of Missouri-Columbia). She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has over 24 years of social service work experience such as Youth Specialist for the Missouri Division of Youth Services, domestic violence counselor, and case manager at a home for boys.
As the Women in Charge social worker, Lynn provides counseling and case management to provide emotional support and practical tools participants need to cope with the pressures of economic hardships, past trauma, family stress, and the rigors of everyday life. Lynn maintains regular contact with all participants, usually once per week or more in crisis situations. Weekly peer support groups encourage reflection upon the power of their inner faith in accomplishing the goals they have set for themselves and their families. Participants and their children become part of a warm and loving community dedicated to helping them build a stable foundation and find their inner strengths, providing the nurturing that many participants have never had.
In 2015, Lynn was instrumental in bringing a new program to Women in Charge, the Depression Initiative funded by the Missouri Foundation for Health to improve the agency’s ability to help women build underlying emotional strengths. The Depression Initiative was designed to address the “silent barrier” of depression as part of a holistic approach to helping women who have dropped out of high school achieve self-sufficiency. The project implements the Beck depression inventories and CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) treatment by the Women in Charge Licensed Clinical Social Worker and support nutrition and exercise program. As part of the initiative Lynn received training from the Beck Institute in Philadelphia for training CBT Therapy.
Women in Charge is also an active member of the Missouri Work Assistance (MWA) Roundtable dedicated to enhancing services for recipients of TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) to help them move into the workforce. Lynn is the agency representative for MWA Roundtable.
This caring community consists of professional staff, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and certified teachers and staff who have been single mothers themselves, trained volunteers, and teen and older adult women participants and their children. Services provide professional intervention and a structured environment with defined expectations, as well as opportunities for peer support and informal interactions and reinforcement. Enrollment is kept small, about 20 women at a time, to maximize individualized interactions and provide for optimal effectiveness of the therapeutic community model.
