The Women In Charge’s ESL program provides free English language classes to adult immigrants and refugees. Both men and women are welcome to enroll. Improved English will help give participants the confidence and skills they need to acquire and maintain employment, leading to long-term improvements in their own lives and futures of their children. These classes will enable English language learners to become competent in the reading, listening, speaking, and writing of the English language. The development of literacy and academic skills are precursors to emotional well-being and stability, long-term employment and self-sufficiency.

Daytime and evening classes are available, seven days a week. Classes are scheduled based upon volunteer and student availability. Our classes can be one-on-one or in small groups of 2 to 4 students, at the Women In Charge office in University City, at a public library/restaurant, or online.

The first step in the process is to submit our student application form electronically. Once we receive your application, you will be contacted to come to our office for a placement test. Based on your test result and your preferences, you will be paired up with one of our volunteer teachers and your classes will start. For more information:
